Danielle Bewsher - solar guides

Danielle Bewsher

Image of blinkers seen by SOHOWhere do you work?

I work at UCLan the University of Central Lancashire, I used to work at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. Before that I worked for the ESA (European Space Agency) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, USA. I’m British though and was born in Bedfordshire. I studied maths at the University of Bristol, but I didn’t want to be an accountant like everyone else. I decided to study space science at University College London. I then went to the University of St Andrews, where I worked with Clare Parnell. There was a crowd of us there and we had a lot of fun.

Blinkers seen in the UV by SOHO-CDS.

I'm studying solar observations from SOHO and TRACE, trying to work out what is making the solar corona so hot. My main interest is in small brightenings, called blinkers, which occur in a region of the solar atmosphere called the transition region. This is between the chromosphere and the corona.

I enjoy dancing. I am a keen ballroom and Latin American dancer. I am a qualified teacher of eight different types of dance - the most recent addition being 'cheerleading'! I taught my friends at Bristol and St Andrews to dance - but it was hard work.
