Where do you work?
I am also at the University of St Andrews. Yes, it is a very big solar group! I was born in Belgium, and I studied maths, physics and astronomy at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. I'm trying to find waves in the solar atmosphere, because this will tell us something about the way in which the very hot solar corona is heated. I work with data from the SOHO and TRACE satellites. It's great fun.
What are your hobbies?
I am keen on all kinds of watersports; I learnt to waterski when I was just 6 years old and took up sailing when I was 8. I'm quite a good swimmer and I have recently taken up scuba diving as well. Moving to Scotland made me discover mountaineering and climbing. I have climbed over 150 of the Scottish Munros and also some high peaks in the Alps. I also enjoy trying out the different Scottish single malt whiskies, but obviously not all at the same time! |
