The scale reading changes because the force of gravity is different on each planet. But be careful. What’s wrong with the answers above? Kilograms are a measure of MASS, and that doesn’t change when you move to a different planet. What does change is your WEIGHT , which is a force and should be measured in newtons. Scales should be labelled in newtons not kilograms! But when was the last time you bought a 10 newton bag of apples in the supermarket?
